Below are some examples of real life situations for REALTORS® that have been covered by this policy.
- Clients were standing on the balcony and it collapsed. Everyone involved as sued, including the REALTOR®.
- There has been an uptick in lockbox claims in recent years. We’ve had multiple situations where a lockbox being used at a condo building is stolen and the condo board demands the REALTOR® pay to re-key the building. We had another situation where someone stole the lockbox, went into the unit and stole the washer and dryer!
- A REALTOR® was showing a property and their client opened a door thinking it was a walk-in closet but it was a stairwell and they fell down the stairs.
- A REALTOR® turned on the water to use the bathroom, but they didn’t see the sign on the back of the door saying “do not turn on water”. The dishwasher started leaking and caused damage to the dishwasher and floor.
These a just a few examples of the situations a REALTOR® could find themselves in, often through no fault of their own. Without insurance in place, a REALTOR® could be held personally liable for personal injury, property damages, legal costs, etc.
